Photo Encaustic
Unique art where photographs and beeswax meet
Photo encaustic is the combination of photography and encaustic. I use a digital camera and print my images on fine art paper with an inkjet printer. Layering the wax to photographs bring more feeling, texture and depth. Oil paints and pigments can also be included to add color.
Encaustic is an ancient art medium from 100-300 AD. The word encaustic originates from the Greek word enkaustikos which means "to burn in" and this element of heat is necessary for a painting to be called encaustic.
I love the organic feel of beeswax and creating art with this wonderful combination.
